The Measure of Success

By on

I just finished reading 9 to 5 = average by Eric Karjaluoto. I get the point. I agree with Eric when he says “Balance may not lead to breakthrough,” but the problem I have with that statement is that breakthrough—success, in other words—isn’t all there is to life.

Don’t get me wrong. I own a business and I work my butt off. I’ve had more than a couple all-nighters in the past week alone. I’m not saying that working a lot is necessarily wrong, or that success is evil, I’m just saying that those things in and of themselves are empty.

Albert Einstein said “Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value.”

What would you rather be, a successful _worker_—well known and respected, cutting edge, world-renown—or a successful person? They have very diffent measures.
