Boost Sales by Building an Online Community

Posted on

One of the great hallmarks of this next generation is their focus on relationships. You can see it popping up everywhere, on every website, in stores, and even cell phones. MySpace, PureVolume, Threadless, and Shared Family Plans all focus in on building little communities around relationships, and a little more subtly, brands.

Freesticky has a few really great suggestions for starting a community around your product:

  • Start a forum
  • Create a Q&A page
  • Hold an online event
  • Start a mailing list
  • Post testimonials

You could also:

  • Create polls
  • Post surveys
  • Enable blog comments
  • Add a guestbook

But as Matt Haughey of Metafilter fame points out, you’ll need to put a lot of TLC into your community to get it started, but it’ll be well worth it.
