My Thoughts on Faith and Entertainment

Posted on

This post has stuff about religion and a previous relationship. My perspective has changed

So I’ve been thinking about Christians and the entertainment they consume since my last post. Mary and I talked about it for quite some time on our way to Prescott this weekend.

It seems like anything a person says to rationalize watching or listening to media with sexuality, stealing, murder, or any of those things is just an excuse. I want to make the excuses. I want to keep Oceans 11, and Paycheck, and Italian Job. Do those movies glorify God? Oceans 11 is a movie about stealing. It has cussing and a very risque/sexual scene. Paycheck has a sexual scene in it too. Italian Job is about stealing as well, and it’s got a risque scene in it. The answer is no. Hands down no.

I think God is pretty black and white about his intentions for us:

Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.

Ephesians 1:4
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.

Philippians 1:9-11
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God.

1 Thessalonians 3:13
May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
