Going Greener with LED Christmas Lights

This post has stuff about politics and religion. My perspective has changed

Multi Colored LED Christmas Lights

It’s so weird that I’m turning into a “green” guy. I’ve never really cared much about the environment until recently. I guess it’s just so much simpler.

Well I think another way that we’re going to do our part is by using LED holiday lights this year, at least on our Christmas tree. Holiday LEDS has a little blurb about the Energy Star Change a Light Campaign, which I think I will do.

Here’s a little description of the program from the Energy Star site:

The > ENERGY > STAR > Change a Light Campaign is a national challenge to encourage every American to help change the world, one light — one energy-saving step — at a time. You can show your commitment by pledging to replace at least one light in your home with one that has earned the > ENERGY > STAR > .

I did a little research and basically here’s what I found. LED Christmas lights have the following benefits:

  • Save 80-90% on electricity
  • 1 piece construction so that they last longer and are more durable than traditional Christmas lights
  • Rated for 50,000 hours of use rather than 25,000 hours

We’re going up to see my folks for Thanksgiving so maybe we’ll pick some up while we’re there. We like the bright white raspberry style lights especially.

Note to self: I need to make a special badge for environment related posts.L
