There’s been a lot of hype lately about which techniques can really get your website noticed by the major search engines but without a few basic principles those techniques will never last. Here are the top five things that you can do to be search engine ready.
- Title your pages
Every page you have should have your website name and a descriptive title. Are you guilty of “untitled” pages?
- Descriptive link text
It has never been a good practice to include “Click Here” in your links. You need to make sure that you have link text that is descriptive of the page in which it links to.
- Use keywords
The content in your website should include keywords that your users are searching for. What would you type to find your product? Make sure you include those terms.
- Fix those broken links
Avoid using tricky linking schemes or navigational elements in your pages and make sure you don’t have any links to pages that don’t exist.
- Link to yourself
It’s actually very good practice to link to your own pages. If you’ve got a post that’s relevant to an entry you’re working on, include a link it!
