Goodbye House (Part 2): Hello Apartment Life

This post has stuff about religion and a previous relationship. My perspective has changed

The only reason a great many American families don’t own an elephant is that they have never been offered an elephant for a dollar down and easy weekly payments. > Mad Magazine> .So now that we’re selling our house, what are our plans? As I mentioned previously, we are going to be partnering with an organization called Apartment Life.
Apartment Life is a Christian non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the quality of life and the value of apartment communities. Apartment Life recruits, trains and supervises on-site > CARES > Teams (Community Activities and Resident Services) to assist management in building community and serving residents. > What is Apartment Life?> 04 Aug 2006. Essentially, we will be an onsite resident retention team. Our goal is to build relationships throughout the community by planning and hosting events, welcoming new residents etc. The thought is that you can get a pool at any apartment complex; you can find an onsite laundry facility; but you can’t find the relationships that you already have in your current apartment.

After we decided to sell our house I started looking around on the internet and found a very nice apartment right across the street. I knew from the start that Mary would love it. Meanwhile, Mary heard an ad on the radio for Apartment Life and thought she’d give them a call. After a couple of calls she was pleasantly surprised to find out that the very complex that we were looking at had a contract with AL and it was needing to be filled!Upon further investigation, we found out that that apartment complex only offers a two bedroom unit to their CARES team. We just couldn’t think of any logical way that we could fit 2000 square feet worth of furniture into a 1300 square feet living space so we decided to see what other communities AL had in mind.

Sure enough there was one relatively close (about 6 miles away) and although the actual apartment wasn’t quite as nice, we decided to go for it.

We have just finished the interview process with both Apartment Life and the apartment complex. We really hit it off with the manager at the apartment complex, Heather. She is really cool and has some awesome ideas for resident functions (like an art-walk, or a live band). Gosh, we are just so excited about this whole thing. It’s really going to be a lot of fun!
