I really like Lifehacker. They’ve got a great post up right now about erasing your hard drives. In the end I think the best option is the destruction method. But I wonder if drilling a hole through the platter is really enough. I suppose what I would really like to know is just how little you have to do before the drive is completely safe. In other words I don’t want to spend a day polishing platters and cutting them up with tin snips. It just doesn’t seem like a good use of my time. But would just the polishing part work? Not sure.
